How many people fit in a nightliner?

How many fixed bunks a nightliner has varies noticeably from vehicle to vehicle. On top of that comes the seating area, where more people find a place during the day. What matters for the choice of vehicle is therefore not the size of the group in the daytime, but the number of sleeping berths you need at night.

Early planning pays off. Nightliners are custom builds and not standard coaches, so the number available is limited and the vehicles are in demand. Tell us the dates and the size of your crew and we will check what is available for that period.

Alongside the bunks, storage space matters. Equipment, stage technology and merchandise need room, and there is less of it on a nightliner than on a pure coach. Tell us in your inquiry what is coming along and we will check straight away whether a second bus for the technology makes sense.

Pricing

What it costs to rent a nightliner

We won't quote a flat rate here, because tours are too different. The cost is made up of the length of the tour, the kilometres driven between venues, the number of drivers and the question of whether the vehicle stands still or drives between dates. For tours over several weeks we calculate differently than for a single transfer.

The largest single item is the driver. Because a nightliner is on the road at night, the statutory driving and rest periods apply: at most nine hours a day, ten twice a week, a break after four and a half hours at the latest. If two venues are further apart, we schedule a second driver.

Set against this are the hotel costs that fall away. For a larger crew over several weeks that makes up a noticeable part of the tour budget.

Renting a nightliner and tour bus: questions and answers

How many sleeping berths does a nightliner have?

That varies noticeably from vehicle to vehicle. For smaller line-ups there are compact band buses, for larger crews there are vehicles with more bunks or a combination of a nightliner and a separate equipment bus. Tell us the size of your crew and we will check what is available.

What is the difference between a nightliner, a tour bus and a band bus?

They usually mean the same vehicle. Nightliner emphasises the sleeping cabins, tour bus the purpose, band bus the target group. In practice the vehicles differ in the number of bunks, storage space and fittings, not in the term.

Can you sleep in the nightliner while it is moving?

Yes, that is exactly what it is built for. The bunks are permanently fitted and approved for driving. The crew boards after the show, sleeps during the leg and is at the next venue in the morning, with no hotel and no check-in.

Is there a shower on board?

In many tour buses, yes, together with a toilet and a galley kitchen. The fittings vary noticeably from vehicle to vehicle. Tell us in your inquiry what you need and we will check it against the specific vehicle.

How much storage space is left for equipment?

Less than in a pure coach, because the bunks take up room. For stage, lighting and sound equipment we recommend a dedicated equipment bus for larger productions. Tell us in your inquiry what is coming along and we will work out both.

Does the nightliner also travel to other European countries?

Yes. Through our European partner network we organise tours right across Europe, from a single border crossing to a multi-week tour. We coordinate ferries, tolls and multi-driver planning as well.

How far in advance do I have to book a tour bus?

The earlier the better. Nightliners are custom builds and not standard coaches, so the number available is limited. Four weeks before the date most of the capacity is already taken. For tours in the festival season you should plan considerably earlier.

What does a nightliner cost per day?

That depends on the length of the tour, the route and the number of drivers, not on the number of bunks. A multi-week tour works out differently from a single transfer. Set against this are the hotel costs saved for the whole crew. Send us the dates and venues and you will receive an itemised offer.

Do sports teams also travel in the nightliner?

Yes, after bands they are the second-largest group. The team and their support staff travel together between competition venues and arrive rested, instead of looking for a hotel after every game.

Is it always the same driver?

By default we provide one driver who drives within the statutory driving, shift and rest periods. If that is not enough for the planned route, we schedule a driver change or a second driver by arrangement.
